WM Waste Management is now operating the first fully electric waste disposal truck now on the road in Australia
In a ground-breaking partnership with the City of Casey and SEA Electric, WM Waste has developed the first fully operational electric waste disposal trucks in Australia. As part of Casey City and WM’s shared ambition to minimise carbon emissions, the first of several electric trucks is now on the road and collecting hard waste in Melbourne’s south-eastern suburbs. WM was the first hard waste business in Australia to use hybrid waste trucks in 2008, and is reaffirming its reputation as a leader in the sustainable waste disposal industry with its electric truck program.

WM’s electric trucks are the first of its kind to be manufactured and designed in Australia. Superior Pak has designed and constructed the body of the trucks, and the electric propulsion system and internal works have been designed and fitted out by SEA Electric locally in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. From initial design to actively on-road, WM’s electric trucks have supported local jobs, the environment and the economy while making Melbourne’s suburbs more liveable.
The next phase of electric trucks to by WM Waste are currently in their trial period, and are expected to be operating throughout the City of Casey in the coming months. This is a fundamental component of WM’s commitment to establish Australia’s cleanest and most sustainable waste collection service.
